Things are always in constant change and development, and people have never stopped trying to combine PV power generation facilities with buildings. For example, how to better match the solar cell materials with the building.

Advanced Solar Power (Hangzhou) Inc. (hereinafter referred to as "ASP") is one of the three enterprises that have realized and adhered to the large-scale production of CdTe thin film modules worldwide. Silicon is the most ideal material for solar cells. Why do we choose to manufacture thin film modules?

Ben Wu, general manager of the company, said that the PV industry, which has been taking crystalline silicon as the leading technology, has always been unable to break through three difficulties in the development of building PV integrated application technology: first, the opaque backplane of crystalline silicon module structure with the largest amount and the most mature technology, the stacking and connection of silicon chips, the aluminum frame and other components to realize the lighting, wind and rain protection and protection of building components . These are insurmountable obstacles in the functions of temperature and sound insulation. Second, the low and weak light performance, high temperature coefficient and high sensitivity to light shielding of crystalline silicon modules make it losing most of the power generation capacity in the non optimal angle installation environment such as vertical curtain wall, especially in the environment with complex light shielding conditions, such as urban center, there is also a fire risk caused by the hot spot effect. Third, the color difference of polysilicon component material itself can not achieve the aesthetic effect of buildings, and there is no way to deal with the architectural design with strict color consistency requirements.

For this reason, ASP decided to change its way of thinking and try to replace crystalline silicon modules with CdTe thin film solar modules which are more suitable for building application. Ben Wu said that the double glass structure makes CdTe film components directly replace the most commonly used glass components in buildings, and solves the construction application problem of crystalline silicon module.

It is understood that ASP has successively developed 7 categories and more than 20 kinds of building PV integrated practical module products. Many products are directly used as building components in daylighting roof, facade curtain wall structure, to achieve the function of traditional building materials. "With the introduction of distributed PV subsidies, increasing electricity charges and the improvement of green building requirements by the governments, the economy of building PV integration will be accepted by more owners." In the future, the ultimate goal of ASP's photovoltatic building technology development is not to produce and manufacture PV module products with building component function, but to produce and manufacture building components with high-efficiency PV power generation capacity on a large scale, said Ben Wu.
